Use tags to organize and filter scorecards, IP addresses, domains, and issue findings across your portfolios. You can apply tags directly while working in the platform, or manage your tag library separately to create, group, and upload tags in bulk.
Note: Tags are visible to everyone in your organization but are not visible to other organizations. You cannot limit a tag's visibility to a specific person or team.
Apply a tag
You can apply tags from several locations in the platform. There is no limit to the number of tags you can apply to a scorecard. At the tagging step in any of the procedures below, you can select an existing tag or create a new one. To create a new tag inline, click Create tag in the tagging panel, enter a name and optional description, and click Apply Changes. The tag is created and applied in one step.
Apply a tag to a scorecard
- Select a scorecard from one of your portfolios.
- In the scorecard header, click Add Tag.
- In the tagging panel, search for a tag and select it, or create a new one.
- Click Apply changes. The tag appears in the scorecard header.
Apply a tag to scorecards in a portfolio
- Select Portfolios from the top navigation bar, then select a portfolio.
- Select one or more scorecards, then click Apply Tags above the scorecards table.
- In the tagging panel, search for a tag and select it, or create a new one.
- Click Apply Changes. The tag is applied to all selected scorecards.
Note: To create a tag without assigning it to any scorecards, click Apply Tags without selecting any scorecards first. You can assign the tag to scorecards at any time.
Apply a tag to IP addresses or domains
Tags applied to IPs or domains remain in place even if the asset temporarily disappears from scanner observations. You do not need to re-tag it when it reappears. Tags belong to the asset itself, not to the scorecard.
- Select a scorecard from a portfolio.
- On the scorecard, select Digital Footprint.
- Select IPs or Domains, depending on what you want to tag.
- Click Add Tags for the item you want to tag.
- In the tagging panel, search for a tag and select it, or create a new one.
- Click Apply Changes. The tag is applied to the selected item.
Apply a tag to issue findings
- Go to the findings table for any issue type and click Add Tag under a finding.
- In the tagging panel, search for a tag and select it, or create a new one.
- Click Apply Changes. The tag appears below the finding.
Tip: To add or edit tags on a finding you've already tagged, hover over the finding to reveal the edit icon.
Manage your tag library
Use the tag manager to create and organize tags independently of applying them. To open the tag manager, click Add Tag anywhere in the platform, then click Manage Tags.
Create a new tag
- In the tag manager, click Create tag.
- Enter a name for the tag.
- Optionally, select or create a tag group to organize the tag.
- Optionally, add a description.
- Click Save.
Create a tag group
Tag groups let you organize related tags together.
- In the tag manager, click Create tag.
- Click Create Tag Group.
- Enter a name for the group and click Save.
Assign a tag to a tag group
You can assign a tag to a group immediately after creating it or at any time.
- In the tag manager, hover over a tag and click the Edit icon.
- In the Edit Tag dialog, scroll to find the group you want or start typing its name.
- Click the group name, or press Enter. The tag is now assigned to the group.
Upload tags in bulk with a .csv file
Use a CSV file to create tags, assign them to tag groups, and apply them to domains all at once. The file must be in .csv format. There is no limit to the number of tags you can upload.
- In the tag manager, click Create tag.
- Click Upload tags.
- Download the sample .csv file to use as a template. The template includes the following columns:
- Tag Name (required)
- Tag Group Name (optional)
- Domain Name (optional)
- Add your data to the file and save it.
- Click Upload .csv file and select your completed file.
Note: If you do not use the optional Tag Group Name or Domain Name column, delete it before uploading to prevent empty values or incorrect tag assignments. If your file contains a tag name that already exists in your organization, the duplicate is discarded.
Filter scorecards by tag
Use the Tags filter in a portfolio to find scorecards by tag.
- In the Tags filter for your portfolio, select a search operator:
- Includes All returns only scorecards that match all selected tags. Use this for more specific searches.
- Includes Any returns scorecards that match any of the selected tags. Use this for broader searches.
- Start typing the name of a tag or scroll to find it, then select it. Add more tags as needed.
The portfolio updates to show the filtered results. The selected tags appear above the table and in the Tags column.
Note: If you download a .pdf or .csv file from the table, the file contains all scorecards in the portfolio, not just the filtered view.
Manage tagging permissions
If you are a SecurityScorecard administrator, you can control which users can create, edit, delete, and assign tags for scorecards, IPs, and domains. Two add-on roles are available:
- Tagging Manager: Can create, edit, delete, and assign tags.
- Tagging Assigner: Can assign existing tags only.
Note: Users with the User base role are automatically granted all tagging permissions. Guest users do not have tagging permissions.
- Click your profile avatar in the upper-right corner of the platform and select My Settings.
- In the Settings panel, select People Management under Admin Settings.
- For a new user, click Invite People. For an existing user, click Edit for that user.
- Enter the user's name and corporate email address.
- Under Base Role, select Restricted User.
- Under Add On Roles, select Tagging Manager or Tagging Assigner depending on the level of access you want to grant.
- Click Add User for a new user or Save for an existing user.
